Ratification of the T-MEC with United States and Canada
The Senate will receive today, by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the documents to ratify the Free Trade Agreement, now known as T-MEC, with United States and Canada.
This action seeks to attract more direct foreign investment, and despite the fact that the Senate works independently, the presidency hopes that the documents that only seek to benefit the country will be approved.
According to “El Heraldo” Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard assured that there are no obstacles to making this treaty a reality, for which he considered it essential to ratify it.
During the morning conference of the President, (which at the moment is not transmitted due to the electoral period in certain states), a call was made to the legislators to convene an extraordinary session for the ratification and approval of the treaty. And it was also announced that those responsible for delivering the treaty will be Julio Scherer, legal counsel; Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Graciela Márquez, Secretary of Economy.
According to the Undersecretary for North America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jesus Seade, it is expected that the ratification of the T-MEC will be completed before August, once it passes through the corresponding processes in the three countries involved.
The news of the ratification of the T-MEC will bring various benefits to the country, and among them, as already mentioned, will be key to direct foreign investment, in fact Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard assured that the news of the ratification of the T-MEC, announced by the President on Thursday morning, will be an incentive for foreign investment that is planned to be carried out for decades.
Ebrard also affirmed that Mexico is the main Latin American commercial partner of Germany, even above the Brazilian economy, as it was able to confirm in its recent visit to the European country in the framework of a meeting of ministers of Latin America and the Caribbean.
